Calgary news
I sometimes like to read about the latest news going on in the place I grew up, Calgary Alberta, and there was an article that kind of got me thinking. In the article it was talking about a mom who has been without a job for almost a year because her 16 month old baby was born with holes in her heart and needs to be beside her all the time. The mom is worried because she is having trouble providing for her kids, and as it gets closer to Christmas she is scared she won't be able to buy many gifts for them. This makes me think about all the people who can't afford much, I sit here thinking of all the things I want this year, and there are kids out there who might get nothing! After reading this article I have been thinking of ways to help people like her, I want to help out those families this year by giving them that feeling I get every Christmas morning!!

News clip
This week I read the news article on the 14 year old boy abducted in Lake Windcrest on November 7. Reading this made me really think abiour how much the world has changed. My parents always talk about how when they were younger they would ride their bikes and run around with friends all around their community till dark without having to worry, but today some parents are afraid to just let their kids play in the front yard without their watch. A few years ago parents didn't worry about their kids getting abducted because it rarely happened, but the sad reality is that something like this now happens everyday. It's scary to think how much worse this could get as more years go by.

In class we read Frederick Douglass autobiography. After reading it I got a really good understanding of how difficult slaves lives were. Reading about how most of them would rather be a beast instead of a slave was heartbreaking, I can't even imagine thinking that for myself. I also realized how much even a little bit of learning meant to a slave, with that tiny bit of knowledge they would use it as motivation to learn even more. Since Douglass learned the skills of reading and writing he was able to become a famous activist against slavery.
